"Zs demonstrate an energy and urgency [on Xe] that they've never before had, as these pieces leap off the page in exhilarating fashion" - Pitchfork
"One of New York City's weirdest and most well-respected bands." - Time Out
At long last, Zs announces XE the new full-length LP out Jan.27, 2015 on Northern-Spy Records. Two and a half years in the making, this is Zs first full studio LP since 2010 and a radical follow-up to 2013's GRAIN EP, despite a flurry of releases and near constant touring in the meantime. Developed on the road across three European tours, two US tours, much work in NYC, and a trip to Japan in the past two years, "Xe is perhaps their best record yet." -IMPOSE
"(ZS) ...creates conceptual art objects that set form and content against each other - like, say, a perfect birthday cake made out of sawdust, or a perfect hammer made of bird feathers." - New York Times
Zs was founded in 2000 and has existed as a trio, sextet, and quartet, now solidifying into the trio formation of Sam Hillmer, Patrick Higgins, and Greg Fox. While our music has been variously categorized as no-wave, brutal-prog, and post-minimalist, Zs is primarily concerned with making music that challenges the physical and mental limitations of both performer and listener. Manipulating extended technique, unique instrumental synthesis, and near telepathic communication, Zs aims to create works that envelop the listener and unfold sonically over time, evoking unspoken past, present, and future rites and ritual. Get conscious.
